Here’s another group of miscellaneous photos that found their way onto my hard drive for one reason or another. I have no idea where they came from or who took them, but I have attempted to sort them chronologically, using hairstyle as a guide.

I’m a recent big fan of Meat Puppets from Brazil. I bought the records some years ago and since then I’m exploring all these amazing tracks. I lived all my life in a some kind of country city, too hot and with big sugar cane plantations (well, not like the vast landscapes around Phoenix), so Meat Puppets remember me of my childhood and my teenage years. There’s too much about that I could say about the importance of Meat Puppets in my life… Living now in a big city, full of trash and loneliness, these great songs are so good, songs of hope when the things are going bad… Meat Puppets wil be in my heart forever. Honestly.

    hey derrick,
great see those photos up, esp the ones in the upper left which i took, and gave to cris after the sept 95 show at the hammersten ballroom in nyc. FYI they’re from 12aug85, the jetty, bloomfield NJ, my first meat puppets show…

it’s great to see some pics i haven’t seen before of the puppets. they are, and always will be, one of my favourite bands, and it makes me happy that you keep them alive :)
    thanks derrick!

Thanks Derrick for giving me something to look at and remember what good music sounds like. Unlike other 18 year olds of today i was brainwashed fortunately underground music as a kid. The Meat Puppets and Nirvana before they hit the big time were the only bands i knew. Then when I found out that I was the only one in my world that had even heard of you guys I introduced your music to my friends and now they’re huge fans too. These are awesome pics and thanks for giving pictures to the words Ive heard for so long.

    MeatPuppets in my heart!

There are only a couple of bands that you need to know to be kool….Meat puppets is one of them..

Meat Puppets’ is at the top 3 of my favourite bands. As Mo said, it’s great to know you keep it alive, Derrick.

    Regards from Brazil,

    Glauber

Hi! I just love the MEAT PUPPETS they’re great but now we have 2006 and nobody does remember them . At least none of the people I know. I say all this because I’m a 13year old grunge-girl and I’m the bassist in a grunge band. The only grunge newcomer band in the world I think! I just don’t know other new grunge bands… But well… I’m sad because of this because GRUNGE is fascinating and really amazing and it’s a pleasure for the whole world that grunge exists but there are not a lot of people who like grunge. I mean there are but they just know nirvana… some do know pearl jam but that’s it! I think it’s time that GRUNGE comes back to be what it was once… I mean I just know what it was once from older people IF THERE ARE A LOT OF GRAMMATICAL MISTAKES IN THIS TEXT I HAVE TO MENTION THAT I AM FROM AUSTRIA (THE WORLD’S ASSHOLE) AND I’M JUST LEARNING ENGLISH

FUCK NOW SUFFER LATER Grunge remains in my blood

Hee hee – the statment above is great! Very amusing. I just wish I was a 13-year old grunge Girl :-(

    Hey Derrick,
Just wanted tosay that I am a huge Meat Puppets fan. I pick up records of yours wherever I can find them. I am currently listening to “Platuea” at work right now (original version). I have one question: Are there any shirts available?

    Thanks,
    Todd

hello, Im assuming that writing this isnt completley redundant and futile, however i will write this anyways. I am 18 years old and in the process of graduating high school, i plan to go to college for ceramic sculpting on the west coast, within the next few months. i also happen to have a band, we are temporarily in sum sort of hyatus, see it just so happens that Liquor and swords just dont mix, its kind of like putting a whole bunch of silverware and tinfoil in the microwave for 30 minutes or something, anyways our drummer got his arm halfway chopped off, and he almost didnt everget to use his right arm ever again, luckily they have plastic surgery and what not and his arm is going to be ok. our bassist kevin dean, happens to have a dad who abbandoned him as a child and he got like a 4,000 dollar check for back child support, and we fortunatly obtained a 16 track recorder it is prolly the nicest piece of equipment we own, we are working an album that will be dedicated to a local trailor park called wagon wheel, therefore the album will be called Wagon Wheel, i have to live in this crappy town for a couple more months then i am free, infact i dont even want to mention the name of this town but for your sake, you know so you never come here, Scottsbluff Nebraska, not that my friends and i would not enjoy your company i just couldnt handle knowing i helped someone get into this town, it is a fillthy wasteland of drunken rednecks and farmers, i almost forgot the corn. anyways my band is called Fish Gawd and your former band happens to be our biggest inffluence, i believe i purchased/borrowed/copied every album you guys ever put out, there is only a few i have not heard yet, i admit it, but if it hadnt of been for an old used cd store, i may have never heard of you guys, and the legacy could not continue with out the monsters you helped create, however you did not know that a group of “long hairs” in nebraska were going to start a secret cult and be so amused by your music that we sometimes take it to a degree that could, in some cases not be takin lightly, we have even went to the extent of wearing dresses and jamming meat puppets songs all day long, we even would go to extent of getting kicked out of all of our practice spots because we would end up getting too fucked up and playing a five our long version of up on the sun or swimming ground. i hope to one day meet you and express my grattitude towards you, chris and curt for helping me get “attacked by monsters” Paul McFarland “oscar”

Oddly coincidental to get the above on the same day when I posted astory about my last run-in with a sharp object, over at Bostworld

    You’re so pretty.

Im from Poland, grunge is not death!!!

Damn it looks like it was fun to be a Puppet

    Aguante Nirvana

im not a long time fan i just recently started listening to Meat Puppets ……..i came to listen to Meat Puppets because i was such a hudge fan of Nirvana…and they were influanced by Meat Puppets so i decided to take a look at the music they played and liked it

It makes me so happy to be reading all these posts from a younger generation who love the Meat Puppets as much as I do. It makes me feel there is still some hope for the younger generations out there. I am a Meat Puppets fan from way back in 1983 when I was just a freshman in high school. I was lucky enough to have purchased a vinyl copy of Meat Puppets II on the advice of my good friend Danny. I promptly took the album home and recorded it to cassette tape. I listened to allot of punk and new wave back then especially bands on the SST label. The Puppets of course stood out like sore thumbs compared to most of the music I was listening to at the time. Funny how most of the bands I listened to back then all faded away with time and the Meat Puppets are still my favorite and most listened to. I keep their entire discography in queue on my iPod. The Meat Puppets were Indie before there was such a thing. Long Live the Meat Puppets!

Your band is very great, I have a great band too. And in a few years you will know me.I have some excelents selfsongs (in the musics there’s trashmetal, blues & grunge).
    …hear you!

even though every one at my hollister high school makes fun of me i still love you cuties

Well, seeing as how this seems to be the hotspot for the younger generations to express their love for the Meat Puppets, I thought that I’d might as well do the same. I am 17, and live in the Salt Lake City area in Utah. My dad’s always been a big fan of rock music, and was the one that got me into the genre in the first place (Rush’s “Roll the Bones” was the first song I ever truly loved). Having heard the classics and some alternative all of my life, I in turn finally started listening to music on my own around the age of 15, eventually falling in love with the “grunge” era of music. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden… I couldn’t get enough. Once I’d bought up most of the mainstream music, I started looking further into the “grunge” scene, stumbling into bands such as Mudhoney and Screaming Trees (as well as Mark Lanegan’s solo efforts). I loved it all, and still do. By this time I’d already gained an interest in the Meat Puppets due to, you guessed it, Nirvana’s Unplugged show. I read up a little bit, and ended up picking up “Meat Puppets II”. After an initial listen, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. It was so raw, almost sloppy. I was so used to the polished sound that I wasn’t really able to absorb the music at that time. I didn’t necessarily dismiss the album, I just found it hard to listen to. It wasn’t until I picked up “Too High To Die” that my love for the Puppets truly came to light. I completely fell in love with the album, and thus decided to give “II” another chance. I was finally able to realize the genius of the album at that point, and thus devoted myself to buying all the Meat Puppets albums. It’s been about a year now, and I have everything (meaning the albums) except for “Monsters” and “Golden Lies,” both of which I plan on picking up very soon. You guys are amazing, and I can’t say enough to express my thanks for cranking out such wonderful and unique music throughout the years. I’m so glad the the Puppets are getting back together, although I was sad to hear that you wouldn’t be drumming this time around, Bostrom. I’m sure you have your reasons, though. You’ll always be the drummer for the Meat Puppets in my book, regardless. Also, you’ve done a wonderful job on the website. Keep it up!

    Long live the Meat Puppets!

Something to say?
