Since these are the only six pix that I scanned from a shoot that numbered over a hundred, they must have been my favorites. The session with photographer Joseph Cultice took place in the summer of 1995, for the purpose of album and promotional art, as well as magazine covers.

We first started using Joseph around 1985. His first official placement with us was the press photography for the “Out My Way” EP in 1986. I’d like to think we had a hand in giving him his first “start” in the business, but the truth is, he would have done it with or without us. He’s still out there working hard, and I’m happy to say that he’s so successful that he doesn’t even need to post any of his old Meat Puppets work on his Web site.

Well, look on the bright side, at least you aren’t listed as “pop stars”.

Great Photos.. Please get more photos up :D Derrick Bostrom are you from sweden `???

Great Prime Ministers In Swedish History

    Gustaf Bostrom, 1891-1900 and 1902-05
    Landowner (b. 11.2 1842; d. 21.2 1907)
    New Farmer’s Party

Even though Bostrom was a prominent Member of Parliament the King hesitated to appoint him as PM because he lacked the traditional academic education and experience of civil service. But when he took up his position he was soon regarded as the most energetic and able PM since Louis De Geer. He settled urgent issues about defense, taxation and trade that had been the cause of serious political conflicts for decades. The old King respected him so deeply that he threatened to abdicate if Bostrom resign.

    EVA BOSTROM COLLECTION

Beautifully crafted trays in pressed birch, manufactured in Sweden. Eva Bostrom is a wonderful painter, bold and direct in her colors and these trays are inspired by her art. They are both joyous and appetizing to serve or be served on.

’Den Bostromska filosofin och dess inflytande pa det intellektuella klimatet i Sverige’ [The Bostromian philosophy and its influence on the intellectual climate in Sweden], in Filosofisk Tidskrift 4 (1997)

The Bostrom 37 is a sleek, hybrid center-cockpit sloop. It was built by Porali Marin in Sweden in 1981, hull #227 out of 300, with Lloyds certification. Porali Marin, to this day, builds the hulls for Hallberg-Rassy. Rassy sub-contracts their hulls out to Porali. And if you look at the cockpit of the Bostrom (designed by Bruno Bostrom) you will see that it is almost exactly a Rassy cockpit. That is where the “hybrid” comes in.

The way that Rassy, Bostrom, and Najad designed their cockpits was a split between a traditional North American center-cockpit and an aft-cockpit. It is just far enough forward to make an aft cabin and to be safer from being pooped, but not so far forward as to make it a wet boat. It is, and I have felt this for many years, the ideal cockpit design. (and experience has shown that it is; you havent seen Rassy change their cockpit design since their beginning have you?) And guess what? Only the Swedes do this to my knowledge. Well, you could say that the Westerly and Contest are similar, but they really are farther forward. And don’t even talk to me about Westerly being a quality boat. What a joke! OK, compared to a Irwin they are a quality boat. And I used to like the Westerly, because of the offshore cockpit, until I got to see what they looked like after 15 years. The Brits are great at style, but frequently they lose it on the quality control. Just ask any Jaquar owner. They look good, but don’t hold up. Look at the gelcoat crazing, the rotting, falling down headliners, the chalked and crumbling Treadmaster non-skid. Hey, it’s my homepage and I’ll call it as I see it. It is simply what I’ve seen on several mid-eighties Westerlys.

To my knowledge the Bostrom was never exported to the US. The only ones to make it here were sailed over. So they are unknown in the US. But they are very well known in Scandinavia. They were built for the Baltic, the North Sea, the Atlantic…… all oceans. They are way over-built, but not heavy. (17,600 lbs out of the factory, about 21,000 lbs now) The pro who did my standing rigging told me the boat was designed to take a 360 rollover and come back up with its’ rig intact!! I was very impressed with that.

No, I am not from Sweden. I was born in Arizona.

Wow, it looks like you guys must’ve *HATED* being in front of the camera. . . ;)

Ummm. . . are those gold lamé speedos Curt K is wearing?? So fetching! (As is Derrick’s crown & Cris’s fruit chapeau.)

Hi Derrick! I’m from Australia and I am quite envious at the music that has been spat out by the Meat Puppets. A whole lot of amazing musical talent buzzing around there I must say! Bugger it makes me so jealous! I want to be as good a bassist as dear Mr Kirkwood! Any space for in the songs for a pianist do you think… I rock the socks off that…!
