I recently recieved a request for live versions of songs from “No Joke!” This is the only show I have in digital format from that period. Unfortunately it doesn’t have too many songs from that album, but it does offer a document of the final months in the life of the original trio. It features Kyle Ellison on rhythm guitar and Davo at the mixing console. The venue was the Hampton Roads Coliseum.

Visit the Wohlers Live Puppets Repository to download this show.

Here’s the track list:

1. C&H Pure Cane Sugar / Scum
2. Sam
3. Station
4. Sweet Ammonia
5. Oh Me
6. Poisoned Arrows
7. We Don’t Exist
8. Monkey Run
9. Lake of Fire
10.Up on the Sun
11. Mockingbird Hill
12. Backwater

Thank You, I live in Scotland Meatpuppets records are scarce, i’ve just figured out how to work my computer and this is a major bonus.

Great quality! Looking forward to see what else you will dig out of the archives.

Awesome recording, I’ve been listening to it a lot. Thanks for posting it. I saw the tour nine days before this set. Good memories. I tried to tape that Nov. 17th show in Beaver PA, but midway through Sam, some Primus nut’s boot hits me in the head, which must’ve made me hit the pause button. This finally makes up for it though, and it has Up On The Sun, which I was yelling for that night but it didn’t get played.

The Primus fans that night were the worst audience ever though that I’ve been in.

Though, quote I will never forget, outside in freezing cold before the show waiting to get in, Primus fans chanting “Primus sucks!” and me standing in my MP t-shirt, some big dude yells “Who’s opening up?” someone responds “Meat Puppets” to which he answers “Meat Puppets?! I’d rather tie my dick to a pole and run away than listen to the Meat Puppets.” And ever since, I wondered if only the Meat Puppets made him feel that way, or if it was a figure of speech for the guy.

    Anyhow,
    Thanks Derrick!

Great stuff, looking forward to more shows being posted. After seeing 25 plus Meat Puppet shows from 1985 to 95, I really miss seeing the band. I would love to see a release of nothing but live covers from over that span, you guys always added interesting stuff to the set. Derrick, one of my favorites was you playing guitar at a Maxwells show in NJ, doing the Budwieser jingle. You also did help me make it through the night if I recall correctly. I would love to hear some more of Dave’s board tapes, he must have an amazing amount of stuff. Cris used to put my wife and I on the guest list regularly, those were great times and we caught as many east coast shows as we could. We caught you at the sun club in Tempe once, it was the Monsters release party and Curt kept getting shocked. He got pissed and threw his guitar and walked off… Great show regardless. Hope all is well, John Haussmann

    Wow,

    Thank you Derrick.

I haven’t even watched it yet.

I know it’ll be good, stoked for some (new) archived footage.

derrick- i missed it. the download link error message says it’s victim of reorganization. rats!

if you ever get the chance to repost, that would be great.

in any event, thanks for all the great music. i have all the sst-era reissues now. still not satisfied.

thanks a lot dude, i really appreciate this show. ive said this before but, on google there are great pups songs if you type in ‘meat puppets live repository’. umm…..just have to say that the dvd is also great, and im really influenced by the bands’ visual art and have incorporated the childish psychedelic madness into my own art.
    thanks a lot!

i’m a closet neanderthal… just realized the puppets may have a website… anyway, i saw a show in D.C. at the HFSteval in 94, awesome – recently got a wad of cash and went out and bought all the remastered discs with the extra tracks… love them all – i said i was a closet neanderthal so it takes about 5 years to get around to stuff – leave this thing posted for at least one more day – i’m going home tonight and downloading it now that i found your site… thanks for all the great music

These live recordings rock! I haven’t heard a lot of Meat Puppets live, so of course I was blown away when I heard them.
My band covers some Meat Puppets (sexy music, new leaf, and a few more), and we play them at shows… People always compliment us on playing Meat Puppets. Reason being that the music flows and molds into a solid form of perfection.
The Meat Puppets will be remembered for a long time.

I am so happy to see this up here~! Always when I feel I will never hear anything new by the Meat Puppets I loved, someone pulls out an old show and puts it up for trade or download. Derrick you are the best for still putting time into sharing this kind of stuff with the fans after all these years~! I can’t think of anyone more considerate than you for still thinking of us. The re-released albums were all gorgeous. Thank you a million times over for your great drumming and hard work~!! ^-^

Hey this is Bill Mumford over there at Mumford’s auto and body. Well you know I got to thinking and them meats puppets is real good. Now if you could have them come over next saturday, after the big skeet shoot over there at Skeeters outlaw fish and hunt club, say around 3 in the pm, then play some o them new tunes like the one i heard about standing in the rain and stuff, well you know I might do some real HARD business.

Not like we been haven lately out here, why nobody but old Mrs Scamson who lives out there on highway 12 out where the rain tower used to be…and …oh hell, the wife’s callin, be right back…

(good sh*t maynerd…..thanks for the live show!)
